Hello! Welcome to Food & Fashion, a project where I, along with my good friend and fellow food lover Aziz Ansari, hit up five of our favorite restaurants in NYC and dressed for the occasion. Today’s post is about our trip to Roberta’s in Brooklyn. For this trip, I told Aziz we should just dress in our current favorite outfits that seem like they would blend in with the Brooklyn chic of Roberta’s atmosphere. Read below for a full recap of our delicious meal and a breakdown of our looks. Photos by Noah Kalina. Food photos by me.

I suggested going to Roberta’s after reading the recent glowing review in the Times. I’d been before but didn’t eat quite this much food. Needless to say, this was ridic. Anna and I combined weigh about the size of one fully grown man, so I must say I was impressed we were able to throw down with this massive 12 course juggernaut of a meal. The highlights for me were the grilled octopus with watermelon and black garlic and the cuttlefish with nectarine, chili, and basil. Also, delicious were the Cannery Row cocktails we had. Ginger beer and whiskey concoctions rarely do me wrong. (Also quite tasty is the Quiet Storm at Employee’s Only.)

The only thing we didn’t have in our tasting was the pizza - but when we went back the next day - BOOM! DELICIOUS PIZZA ALL UP IN MY FACE. Both pizzas we had were fantastic. One was the Speckenwolf, the other was the Bee Sting. Special shoutout to the honey that was drizzled on the Bee Sting. I miss you honey.
This meal was no joke, we ate for three and a half straight hours. I think it’s important to mention that before this meal I had not eaten any meat (besides fish) since Aziz carelessly suggested I read Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer 9 months ago. Cool, so what better way to reintroduce meat than than a Wagyu strip steak that tasted like butter? My favorite dish was the trofie with clams, tomatoes and bottarga, but I also loved the octopus. As a rule I love octopus, just feel like I need to get that out there in case, you know, someone is dying to prepare me a delicious meal.

Roberta’s feels like the ultimate destination for Brooklyn style. This place is filled with the kind of people who probably wake up looking sharp as hell. We kept it low key with our clothes, Aziz’s pants are from Uniqlo and my entire outfit amounts to a combined cost of $60 thanks to Sir Dov Charney at American Apparel. But DON’T WORRY what I saved on my clothes I blew many times that on the BCBG spike heels. I had to. I was defenseless against the shoes. I didn’t have a choice and I will stand by that.
